Growing up, i always idolized Superman. Okay, maybe not superman, but definitely Clark Kent. The image of the roving reporter, investigating crimes, solving mysteries and saving the day by the end of the episode.
These days I feel more like Perry White. Good reason too, I suppose. I’m the editor. This is the crunch week for us at the students newspaper and Wednesday marks one week till we send off the paper to be printed. I’m scrambling to make sure everything fits just right and making sure we have the ads to cover the printing costs for the amount of pages we decided. It reminds me a little bit of my time as Editor of Queer Voice. Some of you didn’t know me at the time, when I put together a monthly tabloid for the gay community. It was my first foray into journalism, and really when I fell in love with being a reporter.
I’ve got my work cut out for me this week, so expect posting to be light (though I WILL post, Uncle Bill, I promise!). My mind wandered today and remembered the TV Series “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman” with the late Lane Smith portraying Perry White. This incarnation of the character has a strange fascination with Elvis Presley.
It got old after a while as he would dispense advice from stories of Elvis. He also, when excited, would exclaim “great shades of Elvis!”. I’m hoping that at least once during my time as Editor that I will have a “great shades” moment.
