Introducing a new feature here on Sweet Homo Alabama: Gaygasm! it compliments my other feature “Nerdgasm” quite well, I think.
Today’s Gaygasm comes via the news that LOGO, the gay and lesbian channel has developed a series based on Del Shores play and movie “Sordid Lives”!
If you haven’t seen this movie, you haven’t lived!
It has drag queens, drunk and high Thelma and Louise, wooden legs and casseroles!
The new televesion series currently has 12 episodes in production all written by Del Shores.
It will have an all star cast including Bonnie Bedelia, Beth Grant, Rue McClanahan, Olivia Newton-John, and Caroline Rhea.
Leslie Jordan(pictured, above) is also scheduled to make several guest appearances as “Brother Boy”
Wait a minute.. Rue McCalanahan?
you mean THIS Rue McCalanahan?:
Thats right! The Golden Girls star will join the cast.
Personally, as a Beth Grant fan (Yes, I loved her in Jericho, too bad she got killded) i can’t wait to see her back in the role of Sissy complete with her back combed hair!
From the press release:
…most of the stage and film cast will reprise their roles, except McClanahan and Rhea, who did not appear in the original film. In addition, Grammy Award winner Olivia Newton-John will be performing five new original songs exclusively for the show. Throughout the series, there will be several guest star appearances, including Margaret Cho, Candis Cayne, Carson Kressley and Georgette Jones, the daughter of Tammy Wynette, playing her mother in a dream sequence.
Sordid Lives: The Series’ twelve half-hour episodes are a humorous look at a dysfunctional family and the denizens of Winters, Texas, as well as an institutionalized brother (Jordan) who channels Tammy Wynette (Jones). The series also chronicles the handsome young son of one of the sisters (Bedelia) who is struggling with coming out to his Texas Republican Baptist family while pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles.
