National Equality March: Friday

Posted on 10 October 2009 by Zach, The Writer

David and I woke up around 7:00 a.m. on Friday and headed to the airport at 8 thanks to a generous ride by David’s friend Matt.
The plane ride was pretty uneventful. We flew from Atlanta to Newark then took a connecting flight to DC. I was really giddy because as we landed in Newark, I looked out to see New York City. I caught a glimpse of the empire state building, the statue of liberty and the chrysler building. I was pretty happy.

We arrived in DC around 2:30 p.m. and took the Metro to our hotel. I love the Metro in DC! You can ride a freekin train to pretty much any part of the city.
I admit that sometimes I do feel like “country come to town” but at least I’m not wearing overalls.
After we settled into the hotel, which is gorgeous by the way, The Hotel Palomar in Arlington, we headed out to eat and then to the national mall. We stopped in to gander at Judy Garland’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz and briefly looked over the houses being built as part of the solar decathalon.

After we got back to the hotel, we pretty much collapsed because we were so tired. after a bit of a nap we got ready and headed out to the Stonewall Democrats meetup at a bar called Halo. we got there in time to watch the party end and the regular clubgoers take over the place. bleh.

So we headed back toward DuPont Circle to find a nice gay restaurant for dinner.
I stopped by the bilerico meetup last night but I didn’t see @dmcrawford there as I had hoped.
I’m hoping I get to see a lot of you blog buddies and tweeps while I’m here, but as of right now i’m 0-2 on internet friend meetings. I hope you guys can do better at finding me.

Now it’s Saturday morning and David and I are about to head out to the national mall to see sights and take some pictures. I’ll be posting some more later this evening.
