Former Birmingham City Councilor Don McDermott, who was indicted on federal child porn charges in September, pleaded guilty this morning to receiving and possessing child pornography. No sentencing date has been set, but one of the charges carries a five-year minimum.

Mobile County Circuit Judge Herman Thomas resigned yesterday, presumably reducing to zero the number of Alabama judges who regularly remove young male inmates from their cells for spankings. Don McDermott, former Birmingham City Councilor for District 1, was indicted today on two federal counts of child pornography. He’s already under indictment in Jefferson County.
You may remember that McDermott was defeated after serving one term — by Joel Montgomery. It’s hard to believe, but in retrospect that looks like a step up.
