You Betcha!

What have we done to deserve this?  Sarah Palin will be in Birmingham on November 23 to shill her new book. (I use the term “her” loosely.  I hope you’ll click the link to read about ghostwriter Lynn Vincent; she has some interesting associates.)

Mooncat at Left in Alabama, who gets the hat tip, notes that November won’t be the best month for Birmingham, as we also endure invasions by Focus on the Family and the tea party crowd.  Geez, we must have been really bad this year.  I guess Santa won’t show up either.

RobBham, commenting at the al.com post, points out:

The book has not even been released and it has already been discounted 69% off the retail price at walmart.com

Walmart.com has it for $8.98 (including shipping) [link added for backup]

That made me curious, so I checked Amazon, and sure enough, its pre-order price for a hardback book that retails for $28.99 is $9.00.  Just in case you’re wondering, hardback copies of Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope go for $15.11 and $16.50 respectively; in fact, the paperback editions of both books are priced at $10.17.

I expect bulk orders from wingnut organizations will give Palin’s tome a short stay on the bestseller list, after which I sincerely hope it makes a quick trip to the remainder table.
