The More Things Change, the More They Stay the Same

Or something like that.  The French phrase is more elegant, but I don’t know how to spell it.  Birmingham’s runoff elections for City Council and School Board are over, turnout looks to be dismal, and while three incumbents will return to the Council, the School Board will have three new members, including the youngest ever elected to the position.

John Archibald expects a new, more combative dynamic on the City Council.  Ah well, once Larry goes away, we’ll need something to keep the meetings interesting.

Congratulations to the winners, and well-fought to those who came in second — most by very small margins.  The new cycle promises to be interesting.

A guy with twenty-four years on our council – since Mobile was first forced to adopt a mayor-council form of govenance – was voted out in the runoff last night. Wow. I can’t say I’m sorry – ol’ Clinton was a friend to bidness over all else, and when necessary, voted to overrule zoning board recommendations accordingly.

And it’s “plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.” :)
