Langford Wants to Move Trial to Tuscaloosa

Birmingham mayor Larry Langford is seeking to delay his trial yet again.  He wants to move it to Tuscaloosa and to have more time to recover from surgery and retool his strategy now that both of his co-defendants have flipped on him.  Funny how he was furious that the public — you know, his employers — were wondering about his surgery, but he’s not above using it to push back his trial date.  The trial is currently scheduled to begin August 31.

It sounds like the prosecution won’t fight him on this.  Given that one of the team just resigned, they may want some regrouping time too.

Now it’s up to Judge Coogler, who wasn’t sympathetic to Larry’s last delay attempt.  We’ll see.

UPDATE:  It worked — the trial will be moved to Tuscaloosa and delayed until October 19.

  1. Well, it’s not like we didn’t know when he planned the doctor visit that it wouldn’t have SOMETHING to do with trying to further delay the trial. He’s become rather predictable. He’s just mad that we’re able to figure his plan out, now.

I hope it doesn’t get pushed back any more. I don’t know how much more the City of Birmingham can take before it’s in JeffCo Land, and if you haven’t noticed, he’s been a little short on crazy ideas on how to spend money in the past week or so as this trial gets closer.

I say to go him one step further and move the trial to Mobile or completely out of state. I wonder just how much luck he’d have with a jury he hasn’t had the chance to sway.

    Word.

i don’t get this. to his constituents – the morons in jeffco and b’ham who have voted for him – this trial will be MORE reason to vote FOR him. so why give away home field advantage?

You got me, Wheeler. I guess he’s afraid a few sane AND well-informed people might make it onto the jury here. At least in Tuscaloosa it’s possible his antics haven’t been all over the news.

  5. I dunno, Kathy. According to the folks I’ve talked to in T-Town, they’re perfectly aware of who Langford is, and they’re not the least bit fond of him.

Well, yeah, I’d be stunned if people you know aren’t aware, because they’re paying attention, but the coverage probably isn’t 24-7 like it has been here. I suspect lots of people in the jury pool haven’t been following the story.
