June was pretty much The Lost Month around here.  I’d been feeling kind of bad for a while and finally broke down and visited the doctor early in May.  That led to a plethora of really fun (NOT!) medical tests and procedures, culminating with gall bladder surgery on June 5.  Recovery has been a bit more difficult than expected, at least in part, I think, because I had anesthesia three times over a 15-day period.  And that “easy” laparoscopic procedure was way more painful than I’d imagined, which meant lots of narcotics.  So my brain has been pretty fuzzed.

lake-east-of-grayton-beachWe spent last week in one of my favorite places, Grayton Beach.  It’s a tiny community on the Florida panhandle, one that has been protected from too much development because it’s surrounded by a state park to the west and a lake (pictured) to the east.  And, of course, the Gulf of Mexico to the south, lovely and clear most of the time we were there.  We took walks and rode bikes and spent hours lounging in the water.  It was about as restful as it could be with an 11-year-old along for the trip.

prissy-by-poolWe did try to teach Prissy to swim, but that didn’t go so well.  She’s not much of a water dog, although she was happy to be with her people.  She only tolerated the water in order to avoid the heat, which was brutal.  I think she’s forgiven me by now.

Should be getting back to regular blogging soon.  There’s certainly no shortage of news these days.  Or scandal.  Anyone want to predict which self-righteous “family values” right-winger will be the next one caught with his pants down?
