Random Cool Stuff at Disney World — Part 3

15YOD auditioned for the American Idol preliminaries today.  She easily made the first cut and went on to the next round — where she was told that her voice is too legitimate for what they want.

So say we all.

(She was not crushed.  When you’re a theatre kid, being told that they’d be all over you if they were looking for theatre people is a huge compliment.  She’s not interested in being the next Kelly Clarkson; she’d rather be the next Idina Menzel.)

Wow! Yes, to me “too legitimate” is a huge compliment. Go DD!

Tell 15YOD she totally rocks! It takes amazing guts and self-confidence to even THINK about doing that. I’m impressed!

  3. Yeah, that sounds roughly like what they told me when I auditioned in Birmingham a couple years ago. She’s way too good for that show, so don’t let her waste any time on it.

In my experience, TV shows are more interested in the entertainment value of bad acts than actually finding good musical talent.

Oh my! I didn’t know that was in the plans for this trip! What an experience. And what a compliment. I’m so proud of her. And you for raisin’ her to be the woman she will be.

That’s so cool, though!! Did I tell you Abby met Idina Menzell last year and her pic snapped with her? My sister in law has a fabulous job and she took Abby to a concert at the Capitol and then to the after party.

Thanks, everyone — I will pass along your good words. Jennifer, that is fabulous! What fun for her!
