Amen Kathy and Lisa. Tonight I caught a clip on a news program of McCain saying “My fellow prisoners. . . .”

I also found his tone condescending when he replied to a questiion on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, assuming ignorance of the questioner–and the content as clueless as Hyacinthe Bucket (from “Keeping up Appearances”)

I had a different take on McCain’s “that one”. I honestly thought when he said it that he could not remember Obama’s name. It really did not sound deliberate as much as just slipping in a generic because he couldn’t think of the name.

Not that my take on it is any less terrifying.

It reminds me of somebody’s auld Irish mother. “You’ve put Mary O’Donald on the bake sale committee? Huh! Don’t think you’re going to get any work out of that one! Her with her airs and graces!” A bit disdainful, sure, but especially given McCain’s tone of voice I think he may have been trying more to be funny than to show utter contempt.

“That one” almost jarred me out of my seat. What on earth was McCain thinking?

Never mind. I probably don’t want to know. Wolf Blitzer used the word “disdain” last night to describe McCain’s feelings toward Obama, and that sounds about right to me.

On a related note, I wonder if anybody is selling jewelry of the red and blue “O” thing. A tasteful enamel or maybe even small rhinestones lapel pin. I need something subtle for the husband’s red-state high school reunion
