Health officials have confirmed Jefferson County’s first human case of West Nile Virus. Here’s some information that might come in handy:
How to Attract Bats for Natural Mosquito Control
I expect Jennifer to be all over this story. She doesn’t like germs.
If Jennifer is on the story, I understand that squirrels are outstanding in the area of mosquito elimination.
We’ve had a bat house for about 5 years and bats don’t live there. It’s at the right height, facing the right direction, but I think the trees and tall shrubs in the yard may keep bats from being attracted to it.
We have lots of mosquitoes. And lots of squirrels.
Joe, if we decide to install a bat house, it will have to be a closely guarded secret. Our 10YOD would love it, but our 15YOD would freak out!

We have a bat house. No bats live there but they love the garage. We have a crowd (maybe 5 or 6) who stay in our garage for a few weeks while they raise their younguns. Love to see them show up each year. But it just goes to show we don’t know everything we think we do about bats.
It’s not the germs so much as it is the inevitable fatal diseases that follow…
