Equality Alabama Goes On

The Montgomery Advertiser has two nice stories today. One highlights the ongoing work of Equality Alabama following my brother’s death, and the other is a more personal remembrance. They remind me acutely of how great the loss really is, but also of why I’m so proud of him. He was a good man who worked hard to make the world a better place.

These articles are both wonderful. What a legacy!

I read those wonderful articles early this morning and I was torn as to whether or not to alert you to them in case you were unaware, Kathy, for fear they might stir memories more bitter than sweet.

The news of John Mark Stallings’ death yesterday at age 46 brought back memories of my late younger brother Byron who also was born with Down Syndrome, and those memories brought both bitter and sweet recollections back to me…..more sweet than bitter.

The commentors at the MA forums are total PIGS for the most part. I read both wonderful articles amd was very proud to have known Ken albeit for a much shorter period than I had hoped for.

Thanks, everyone! Don, I’m learning that the pain never goes away, but at the same time, I’m so grateful that I had a brother. I imagine you feel much the same. Loretta, my husband told me to stay away from the comments, and I suspect that’s best.

    Kathy,

You husband is obviously a very wise man who loves you very much. I’ll second his recommendation that you shouldn’t venture anywhere near the comments.

Well, he wasn’t my brother, so I read the comments, and they pissed me off so much I went and gave money to Equality Alabama. Then I posted my own comment thanking the commenters for inspiring my generosity. Childish, wasn’t it :)

    Del, you’re the best!

  8. I’m sorry I never got to meet your brother, but he left a legacy in the form of people who will carry on his work. I was also impressed with the Advertiser’s reporting and calling Equality Alabama a “civil rights” organization. That is so much more accurate and encompassing that the usual press coverage.

Thanks, Lisa. I was really pleased with the stories, and I really need to email the reporter. Positive feedback is always a good thing.
