Pride Parade Tonight!
The Central Alabama Pride parade is tonight in Five Points South. Line-up begins at 6:30 PM, with stepoff at 8:30 PM. Everyone is welcome! The girls and I will be at the theatre, but Dear Husband and nephew Zach will represent our family in fine style. I hope they will see some of you there.
In the midst of this week’s theatre craziness, I missed the Birmingham City Council’s passage of a resolution supporting Central Alabama Pride week. Thanks to Valerie Abbott and the Councilors who stood up to the mayor’s bigotry.

My daughter and I went - I’m not much on parades but wanted to show my support. Lots of people and very well behaved. Some protesters were there - I heard it was the first time the event had protesters and I would attribute that to LaLa the ignorant. I read in the paper this a.m. that they were from some church in Georgia, so at least it wasn’t our local people. Inexplicably, one of the really big signs was about liquor being bad.
I did see one young man, hopped up on youthful energy and probably demon rum, who grabbed a protester’s sign and tore it up. That was stupid but the protester, fortunately, let it ride.
All in all it seemed like a fun event - lots of different people and mardi gras beads flying.
