Dan, that really is pathetic turnout. The voters of Jefferson County should be appalled that they let such a small number of voters make decisions that will affect their lives.

Wow, do you guys anything better to do than to take the results of this race and extend it to the depths of plain absurdity. Its a race, the people voted their choice, get over it. Pat Todd won her race so get over it, it will be time for another race and you guys will still be lamenting the results of the last race.. Get a life.. Move on!

Wow, John, those are <a href="http://www.bobdylan.com/songs/withgod.html" rel="nofollow">powerful lyrics</a>. I'm also reminded of <a href="http://thinkexist.com/quotation/sir-my_concern_is_not_whether_god_is_on_our_side/164075.html" rel="nofollow">Lincoln's </a>"Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God's side, for God is always right."

You'd think believers would be a bit more careful about claiming God's support for their own political ambitions.

Everytime I hear some hypocritical politician claiming to have God in his or her pocket, it makes me think of that old Bob Dylan song "With God on Our Side." They should give it a listen and engage in a little self evalution.

Actually, I thought you were talking about the Kirk Cameron (I think) video that uses a banana to "disprove" the theory of evolution. ;)

No you don't, either. It's a charming story about Vacation Bible School. Father Nameless encouraged three children to pray for a cookie. Then he handed them three brown paper bags. First child got a cookie - "Sometimes God answers prayers." Second child got a LOT of cookies - "Sometimes He answers them abundantly." And the third child, well, now you know the punchline.

I hadn't thought of the banana as phallic symbol until now, but you're right, it's clear that Father was saying "Sometimes God screws you." Otherwise, he'd have put an apple in there, right?

I think those people who go on TV after a tornado has spared their house (but flattened their neighbor's) and talk about how they know God's hand was protecting them should all be given big bags of cookies. And their neighbors, lying on borrowed cots over at the Red Cross shelter, should be given bananas. I can't think of a better way to help everyone gain a fundamental understanding of prayer and how God is working in our lives.

Yes, Dan, I'm aware Jews believe in God. ;) I'm also aware that there are plenty of Christians who think they have an exclusive claim. Thanks for the link!

Sansou, I'm going to blame it on low turnout.

Del, I know just where you're going with that banana reference.

[...] She just got elected to Jefferson County Tax Assessor (which is elected for some…. no, no… that’s another post). If the name sounds familiar, she’s the same lady who tried to undo her defeat at the hands of the Caucasian American Patricia Todd in the Alabama House in 2006. Kathy gives her opinion.
