Here’s my Pick-a-Little hat for The Music Man.

I realize you can’t actually see the hat under there, but it will be firmly secured to my head on Friday night. The show runs June 6-15 (Friday through Sunday the first weekend; Thursday through Sunday the second weekend). It’s a silly, fluffy show full of fun and familiar music and great dancing. If you’d like tickets, click here.
Del, I’m guessing this hat would not be suitable for a funeral.
I KNOW you’re going to look hot in that.
The Easter Bonnet tune is all of a sudden playing in my head…..Are you wearing a hoop skirt with this? It looks so Azalea Trail Maid.
I don’t know about looking hot, but I’ll definitely feel hot underneath the hat and the wig and the layers of clothing. No hoop skirt (thank goodness), more of a late Victorian look with a high-waisted skirt that flares at the bottom, a ruffled blouse, and a jacket that nips in at the waist. All in really gorgeous shades of purple and lavender.
Y’all will be impressed to know that I designed the hat myself. I’m stunned it turned out as well as it did.
Tony,
What the heck is an Azalea Trail Maid?
Kathy, in a “just kidding” mode —that hat wouldn’t even be appropriate for you to wear if you went skinnie-dippin’ in my pool.
Wear it anyway, have fun, and as they say on Broadway, “Break a leg!”.
Yikes. You will require surgical intervention due to neck strain!!!!
Nice design, though.
Is that a bird on the top there? Or even two birds?
“You don’t know Nelly like I do!” sang the saucy little bird on Nelly’s hat.
Katy, it isn’t as heavy as it looks; most of the bulk comes from tulle and a feather boa. The wig I worked with yesterday (not the one I’ll use for the show) was badly stretched and wouldn’t stay on, so that got pretty exciting, but when everything is properly anchored it won’t be too bad.
Del, there are actually four birds (two red ones at the top and two purple/pink ones below. And a butterfly. We were going for overkill, and I think we achieved it. Believe it or not, mine’s on the tame end of the spectrum. I’ll try to get some pics of the others tomorrow night. They’re amazing.
Don, thanks for the break-a-leg! And you’re right, there really is no place where this hat would be appropriate. Other than the stage, of course.
An Azalea Trail Maid is a high school senior girl in Mobile who represents or serves as ambassadors for Mobile’s Azalea Trail. They wear pastel colored hoop skirt dresses with matching hats. (and the girls wave alot) You would think you were seeing Scarlett O’Hara or Jethrene from the Beverly Hillbillies when you see these young women.
The Azalea Trail winds through the city and can be toured by following a painted pink line on city streets.
Kathy’s hat would coordinate well with their outfits!!
Kathy,
Your hat is lovely, truly lovely. Nice job. Will you post pics of the entire outfit?
You should totally wear that hat next time you go to the Wal-Mart!!
Thanks, brother in law. I think the girls at Arlington here in Birmingham do something similar. Maybe I can donate my hat.
ML, thanks! I hope to get a picture of the whole outfit sometime soon.
Jennifer, only if you’ll go with me.
In the words of my 13 year old – you be lookin’ Floozie! I want a picture of you in the hat!!!! I am with Katy, it looks like it would require a neck brace! Hope you don’t have to go outside in it – I’d be worried about the birds and the bees…..
Hey Bill, maybe if you’re lucky, Kathy will wear that hat for you….AND NOTHING ELSE!!!!
But it would be stunning with the crotchless CDD bloomers.
My eyes are closed tightly…….I’m too old, and my heart may not survive the eroticism now being suggested.
Enough, already! We don’t want to lose our PG rating.
I thought this was a porn site anyway….or at least according to Panera!
Kathy, now go on out there, lie like a dog, and have a wonderful time!
Thanks, Tom!
