JeffCo Senators Approve Revised Pay Raise Proposal for Birmingham Mayor
Jefferson County senators today approved a proposal that would raise the salary for Birmingham’s mayor $40,000, beginning with the next term of office. The proposed raise now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
A couple of observations — first, $108,000 (the new salary) doesn’t seem excessive to me, given the size of the city of Birmingham. And giving the raise to the next occupant of the office, whomever that might be, makes more sense than rewarding Larry Langford for the crap he’s pulled since his election. Second, why the hell does the Alabama legislature set the salary for Birmingham’s mayor? We need a new Constitution!

I think perhaps in this case we should thank Providence for that tattered old state constitution. If Birmingham could control the salary for Birmingham’s mayor, God only knows what BMLL would have been able to push through for himself by this time.

Can we make him put the sackcloth back on and pray for the raise first? We need a few more laughs.

Del, you have a point, in this case.
SY, I can’t see Larry humbling himself to ask for a raise. I expect he’s more likely to pray for fire and brimstone to rain down on the “evildoers” who oppose it.
