We survived by living in just the den of our home where we had a fireplace, sleeping on the couch and floor in down-filled sleeping bags. Luckily, we had a good supply of firewood on hand and we cooked over the fire. We lived on Lake Jordan at the time and the lake froze over sufficiently to allow one to walk on the ice. The experience of living in those conditions for just a few days makes one admire the toughness of prior generations in the days before they had electrical power, indoor plumbing, or even wood stoves to cook on. We should all count our blessings. 1993 must have been the year we were without power in below freezing temperatures for several days. If a squirrel decides to sacrifice itself, it takes out our house and at least one neighbor. In 1993 we lived on the side of Red Mountain, and our power was only out for 23 hours. Where we are now, the power goes out in a strong wind, or sometimes when there's no wind, so you'd think we'd have a generator by now. We've only lived here 14 years. I'm glad everyone's okay at your place. Cranky 'ole codger who always made a point to complain about how loud it was when our power would go out (which was rare). His story quickly changed during the winter storm of '93. He greatly appreciated the cold drinks and warm meals we were able to offer when our neighborhood's power was out for over 3 days. We didn't make any snide comments, just asked if he would like to come over one morning for breakfast. He was very appreciative. Glad everyone's ok (hopefully all are). We lost power for about 8 hours. The strange thing is everyone in our neighborhood HAD power except for us and about 7 other houses. Guess we were on the wrong circuit or something.
