Clinton has a big night — takes three of four primaries in mini-Super Tuesday

McCain sweeps — Huckabee concedes

Kucinich hangs on to win Dem primary in Ohio

Two Vermont towns vote to arrest Bush and Cheney for crimes against the Constitution

So, will we see Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton vs. McCain/Huckabee? I’m afraid I have no trenchant political analysis at the moment. “Into the Woods” opens Friday, and we’re in the midst of the exciting experience known as tech week. My brain is too full of lines and lyrics and blocking and choreography to process much else.

I did, however, note the strange looks I got when I picked up dinner at the Wendy’s drive-thru after last night’s rehearsal. Do you suppose it could have been the hair, recently released from pin-curls and a wig cap? Or perhaps it was the tree makeup I didn’t have time to remove before I left the theatre. I hope the poor beleaguered Wendy’s employee just wrote it off to late night weirdness.

I think a baseball cap and some cold cream will be on the agenda for tonight.

Open thread, comment at will.

Hey Kathy - I was thrilled to see results on Clinton. So I guess the Huckster is going back to the pulpit somewhere. Hope your performance goes well — I had to laugh at the Wendy’s drive thru story. I did a brief stint at Wendy’s in college one summer - almost every night I worked Tom T. _____ - a well-known country singer drove through around midnight and ordered coffee. Typically he was so sauced, you couldn’t understand him. After he cussed me up one side and down another that first night, I began to recognize him and always had a black coffee with 3 creams ready when he weaved to my window. I’d say Wendy’s late-nighters have seen it all. Working in fast food is a motivator to further one’s education. We are starting to do the college trips with Joey. YIKES! University of IN? Where is that coming from? The ADD cousin, apparently!

Oh, cool! A friend of mine is getting married and moving to Bloomington over the summer — his fiancee is a grad student there. Small world. :)

Yeah, I expect most fast food employees have seen the worst of humanity, although drunk, angry, and famous country singers might not be that common in most parts of the country. I was very polite last night and trying my best to be nonchalant about the whole thing, which may have made it seem even more weird.

I was happy about last night’s results too, on the Dem side. I wouldn’t have minded if Huck had stayed around a bit longer, reminding the fundies of why they hate McCain.

    Thanks for the good wishes!

    Tree makeup - excellent.
I hope they thought you were an Ent!

  4. Kathy Says:

Ooh, an Ent. That would be cool!

I wish I could come see the play. You’ll have to post pictures!

OK, I have been hesitant to write this down, but here goes: I think Tuesday night’s results will likely go a long way toward electing John McCain as our next President. The bitter infighting and attack ads that began before Tuesday’s primaries and will now almost certainly intensify (in both directions) are going to tear the Democratic Party to shreds. If, as is looking increasingly likely, Hillary pushes for the super delegates to nominate her despite failing to secure the most elected delegates, I truly believe that we will have sealed McCain’s victory in November. In the next seven weeks, I am afraid that Hillary and Obama will go after each other on the very issues that the Republicans need for ammunition in the general election campaign, including attacking each other’s basic qualifications to be President and Commander in Chief. It has, of course, already started, as Hillary has told us that Obama is too inexperienced and naïve to be President, and Obama’s surrogates have begun challenging Clinton’s claims that she allegedly has “already been vetted” by suggesting that the Clinton “scandals and skeletons in the closet” will provide ample fodder for McCain in the Fall. As the campaign gets increasingly and perhaps desperately negative, the Republicans and John McCain reap the rewards of running against a substantially weakened opponent whose supporters have been demoralized and disheartened. Once again, I am afraid that we will have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Keep hope alive Roy and do the math. It will surprise me considerably if the majority of the American people vote for John “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran” MCain in the November election. Hillary and Obama are engergizing the base and registering voters. Hillary and Obama owe it to Democratic voters to have a full and fair debate on the issues and not resort to personal attacks. The majority of the America people are tired of all war all the time, debt as far as the eye can see, our troops being killed and maimed in Iraq, the lack of access to health care for all Americans, the spying, Scooter Libby justice and the high price of gasoline. The majority of the American people know it’s time for a change.
