Dodd, We Hardly Knew Ye
This makes me sad: Chris Dodd dropped out of the presidential race tonight after faring poorly in the Iowa caucuses. Sen. Dodd impressed me when he came to Birmingham last June and spoke to the Over the Mountain Democrats for free. No tickets, no pass the hat — just a town hall meeting where he talked in detail about his positions on a number of issues and took questions from the audience.
He said over and over during the campaign that the first thing he’d do when elected would be to restore the Constitution. He refused to back down when Bush tried to push through a FISA bill that granted retroactive immunity to telecom companies that handed over customer records without warrants, and he forced Harry Reid to table the bill — after Reid ignored his hold and brought it to the Senate floor. Side note: he cancelled campaign appearances in Iowa so he could be present to debate the bill and filibuster if necessary.
I’ll miss him on the campaign trail, but I’m glad he’ll still be in the Senate. Well done, Senator!

A politician who is doing his job!?! What? It sounds like he has character. Of course he had to drop out. Can you tell I am disheartened with our political process?

Me too, Susan.

Dodd is a good man. I’m thankful he serves in the United States Senate.

Dodd’s talk of restoring the Constitution certainly grabbed my attention. It seems that only Dodd and Ron Paul want to do that and sadly any candidate who does is marginalized or ridiculed by media and most of the public.
That’s understandable on the part of media because it’s largely controlled by the Council on Foreign Relations which had rather have a “One World” government than to let nations remain sovereign.
But why do so few Americans seem to care and want their freedoms set forth in the Constitution restored and maintained?
