One Klan Group To Protest Another in Cullman

Um, what? Geez, just how many Klan members are there in Cullman?

Members of one Ku Klux Klan organization say they will assemble at the courthouse Nov. 10 to show their opposition to another Klan group that plans an anti-immigration rally there that day.

Ken Mier, who described himself as an investigator for the Alabama Ku Klux Klan and the national office of the Ku Klux Klan LLC, said in an e-mail to The Cullman Times that his group is against the tactics of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which held an anti-immigration protest last month in Athens.

“We are opposed to the ignorance and stupidity as displayed by the individuals that thumbed their nose at the area churches by continuing to use racial slurs, threats and avoided Christian deportment,” he said.

Okay, I’m speculating here — there’s not much information in the linked news flash — but somehow I doubt the Alabama Klan loves them some immigrants. Sounds like the local folks are just a mite pissed that the damnyankees came down here and stole their thunder.

The Klan is an LLC??? I find that a wee bit disturbing!

  2. Kathy says:

After the Southern Poverty Law Center took a few Klan groups to the cleaners, I guess the rest decided they’d better protect their assets. It is disturbing.

  3. Roy says:

Someone needs to step forward and mend this terrible rift in the Klan. Can’t we (white people) just get along?

  4. Kathy says:

Roy, I nominate you to mediate. If nothing else, that would be funny as hell.

The KKK protesting the KKK, only in Alabama……

  6. Helen says:

This must involve an excruciatingly difficult choice–which side to support–for County Commissioner Wayne Willingham, who’s running for the District 12 seat (some say with ALFA support).

After all he did run for his previous job as mayor of West Point, AL, on the Southern Party ticket.

But wait, someone protests that the Southern Party isn’t the Klan. Right, they’re just “political” segregationists, er, separatists.

  7. OutsideLookingIn says:

I’m with the first commenter, Jennifer. First, I can’t believe their a Limited Liability Corporation???

Second, I can’t believe this “Investigator” for friggin’ Alabama KKK (read ‘chapter’ folks, meaning ‘more than one’ group of racists, as opposed to the Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, New York, Washington, or pother ‘chapters’) plus a ‘National Organization’ … *just breathe* … is willing to go on-record and publish his name: Ken Mier. I thought the Sheets were for anonymity, turns out they’re nothing more than a fashion statement?

Third, if we fought a Civil War against these beliefs, why are they allowed a public assembly?

Cripes, we assemble to oppose NAFTA (an international org.) and are arrested.

We are not living in America … we’re living in Bushittika.

What going on, when our bothers cant get along, thats what wrong with our people today,we cant stand together on anything.

  9. Well if that don’t beat the cat ‘a howlin’! One Klan group protesting another?

  10. Kathy says:

Button, we had battling Klan groups come to my small GA town when I was growing up — one was the traditional hatin’ on the black people type, and the other was of the “Jews are running everything” variety. Neither gained much traction, which made me very happy.

  11. Ken Mier says:

We of the Alabama Klan have considered long and hard this venture of Clean it up or shut up.

We have many topics that need to be addressed such as the declaration of the Beginning or the new Civil Rights Era by Al Sharpon at the Jena Six marches..
“We say No way. It is a travesty that it was overlooked that the march was actually against a JURY . But focused on the Noose.

We intend to continue our campaign in an effort to seperate our heritage and modern day issues from that of Vigilanties of the past.

There were many more white christians holding up LOVE signs in Athens that are genuinly concerned with Illegal Immigration issues. However the Globaly recognized KKK could not render any form of positive American representation.

Willingham and his whole family have always been involved in the KKK. Willingham Salvage in Cullman has always had the “Stars and Bars” flying from the top of one of his cranes. I grew up in the small German town of Cullman and had many run-ins and experiences with the KKK. They have always been bullies, but have had some educated well-placed members of the community to run interference for them. Most of their disturbances would take place outside of the sleepy little hamlet, but with growth comes more people moving in and those people have different reasons to hate.
There was no mixing of races in Cullman, because it was virtually an all white community. Some called it a “sundown town”, but in reality there were a scattered few minority residents that lived in the city limits. Most of these were domestics and hired help, but with Saint Bernard College and the influx of Cuban refugees during the 60′s the absence of minorities became obsolete. Prior to this Cullman had a heritage of being one of the Strawberry harvest centers of the South, with that it brought many migrant workers, so for years Hispanic workers worked the many farms in the area.
The largest concentration of racial unrest in Cullman County was centered in some of the rural areas. But in reality the real basis for hatred is not skin color or habits, but monetary competition. In all cases of discrimination in our great nation most racial unrest occurs when one group takes on the previous occupations of another. Case in point the fishermen on the Texas coast displaced by immigrants from Vietnam after the conflict there. The resident blacks and whites banded together to fight the menace from overseas…..
Its all about MONEY and FEAR!

  13. Marie says:

What time will this actually happen?

  14. Kathy says:

Marie, I haven’t been able to find a time in any of the news stories. I’ll keep my ears open and post the information if I get it.

    SmokinQ72, that was well said.

  15. NotThreatened says:

Would you mind detailing some of your run-ins with the Klan and how you handled them? My family is currently being affected by Klan behaviour. The Klan is nothing more than a gang. At least the urban street gangs show their face. It’s one thing to tolerate their difference of opinion. It’s entirely another when their actions affect you personally and violate the law. I, too, grew up in Alabama, knew they existed, but we rarely crossed paths except when you would see the little signs in the grass saying, “Klan Rally Tonite” with an arrow. I guess every generation has to be taught that bullying others under a sheet is not acceptable behaviour. I encourage anyone who is affected personally by suspected Klan behavior to contact both the Southern Poverty Law Center as well as the Department of Justice. Klanners were off their rockers in the 1960′s and 40+ years later, they are still off their rocker, only now they are trying to get respect through “Christian deportment”. Tain’t no such thing with a Klan member. Some appear to be in positions of authority within our military troops serving in Iraq and if you have the misfortune of serving under them you will find that they ignore military courtesies and, instead, follow established klan relationships. What a sad situation for those under them.

No matter your color or nationality, if you want the US Department of Justice to prosecute more hate crimes, show up. Be there instead of Cullman, AL. Yes, it is Al Sharpton. But, you know what, sometimes he is right and this is one of those times.

  17. Ken Mier says:

Who will be there to represent the dignity of the average American white Christian family ?

As seen in the “Alabama Klan website, these are serious issues that do need to be addressed. The use of the noose and the sign of Satan the “Swastika” are all pointed at the KKK. The websites that present these type of signs are asking for trouble and we say they deserve it.

Today, every ethnic group needs a panel of spokespersons to represent them , acceptance is the key, and waveing black baby dolls on a noose on a stick by a group displaying the stars and bars upsets the major majority of southern white christians as seen by the protest of the church members of the City of Athens Alabama.. That is a crime . We do agree and it has made us furious and ashamed.

The Ku Klux Klan of today is completly useless and their souls will be stained with the blood of the innocent if they continue to promote militia action and violence.

At a meeting in Birmingham, Friday night, 37 members of the Alabama Klan voted to remove the Ku Klux from there name.

We feel that we are in a position to promote change and harmony.
Our connections with any Ku Klux Klan group that displays and speaks of hate and violence is forever severed.

Our main topic was that God does give everyone a second chance. We have accepted that forgiveness and will continue to use the name Alabama Klan as a relative recognition of change .

At the Jena Six march, Mr. Sharpon declared the beginning of the new Civil Rights ERA. That statement alone has many white families terrorized .
The City of Birmingham is now working very hard to clean up crime and promote a city of change. Mr. Sharpon, “PLEASE” be careful not to jepordize the effort of unity promoted by Mayor Langford. He has recognized God as appointing him for his victorious election. Now, that WE SHALL NEVER ARGUE WITH and wish him the best of luck in all of his endeavours.

Our website is being re-constructed and will explain our agenda before the weekend of Nov. 17. Please be patient and open minded as we conform to become socialy acceptable. denouncing all previous methods of intervention. Our membership agrees that it is time to find compromise among Black, White, Brown, and all respectable ethnic organizations.

The late Martin Luther King demanded Federal Intervention Does not Mr. Sharpon and Jessie Jackson agree that it is time once again to demand Immediate intervention to stop and control Illegal Immingration which all Americans deserve ? National security should be the outspoken issue…NOT RACIAL DIVIDE !

If Al Sharpon would omit the Confederate Flag as a National Hate symbol, I might just stand on stage with him myself.

In no way is this post to be interpreted as hateful or disrespectful toward any race. We are serious and Pray for our Nation to Unite in these days of unrest and turmoil.

  18. Helen says:

Ok Mr. Mier, I agree that there should be an end to illegal immigration and would like to see a really smart plan instead of the ineffective, piecemeal action taken so far. Wall-building is destroying Border communities and harming the total environment but does not stop the influx (people will always find ways to get in and 60% of folks without lawful presence did not slip across the border but are visa overstayers).
Current border policy has also blocked the circularity of earlier years, where people would come, work and go home. Now, unable to come and go and feeling stuck, workers miss their families, so bring even more people.
It is also important to look at how U.S. military and trade policies have created or helped to create desperate situations for people in Mexico, Central America and Colombia, for example.
We need a realistic visa policy to bring in, in orderly fashion, workers for jobs that truly can’t be filled, a living wage, and enforcement of laws that protect all workers from exploitation.
I also hope that you would agree that a little compassion is owed to those people who were brought here at an early age, are Americans in language and culture, but do not have any way currently to regularize their status.

  19. HotCollards says:

I AM the average American white evangelical Christian family as that is my demographic, conservative and Southern to boot.
Miers, you are extremely confused. Mr. Sharpton’s statement does not “terrorize” this white family. The serious issues are addressed through the polls and through intelligent letters (truly the pen is mightier than the sword) to my representatives. On the subject of forgiveness, have you considered going back to sites where your presence may have terrified people and asking their forgiveness and making amends. Seems to me that is what the Bible recommends. I’m okay with the flag, but I’m not okay with acts of intimidation such as the wearing of a white robe and headgear, nor the burning of the cross (if you’re still doing those things), nor of treating people in a certain manner because of the country in which they were born or the color of their skin or eyes or their religion (unless it advocates terrorizing or killing me). They (symbols) represent the historical hatred that the Klan has shown. Take them off and then you might find greater acceptance of your message. If you want unity, fly the UNITED States flag. And I don’t believe in terrorizing immigrants as they are removed. We are (were) known as a nation with ethical treatment of those different than ourselves and have tried to export some of our ideals. Yes, the borders should be protected.
The Klan carries a lot of emotionally bad baggage, much like seeing the Black Panther Party would evoke.

  20. Ken Mier says:

Please revisit the website, You will see that the hoods are off and the amends are being accepted daily. Thank God , everyone deserves a second chance.

Yes Ku Klux has been voted out of our organization, we are the Klan standing in front of the Church and surrounding the idiots in Athens.
With that change we burned the robe and the hood. History in the makeing we choose to call it.

You will notice the Church of the National Knights have cancelled their Cullman event. We consider that a victory for the citizens of Cullman. Athens and the Great Southern State of Alabama.

The chkkkk are aware that we are a group that has realized that the “Bad Baggage” is that of shame and guilt for the white christian community.

I have recieved many threatening emails and phone calls from individuals that consider my personal stand treason. Well, treason or not I want to stand in front of my creator on judgement day and thank him for the forgiveness he has shown me.

I do agree, the American flag shall be flown at the top of the pole. The United States is in trouble and our flag should be recognized as a symbol of freedom and honor. None should fly above it or alongside it on our shores.

As for the Confederate flag. It has been deemed a National Hate Symbol by the actions of the KKK in displaying it alongside the Swastika, the Noose and other un-acceptable symbols such as a blackfaced baby doll hanging by a noose on a stick.

In Athens I began to cry as I saw this sickening display and the tears overtook me so badly that a police officer ask me if i was ok. My comment was “I will be sir”.

If Mr. Sharpon and Rev. Jackson could give the Southern people back the flag of the South then our children could put their heritage into perspective and not be so asshamed and confused.

I would be more than happy to go to DC and accept that flag in representation of a new beginning for the forgiveness of which you suggest. It could be displayed from that day on as a symbol of the newfound freedom of our great southern states. A matter of pride, Simple as that.

Question, do you think the congregation of the sixteenth baptist church is ready to listen to a group of reformed Alabama Klansmen on the steps of the church asking for forgiveness for the actions of the vigilanties of the past.
I think not yet, however, that is a goal we have considered.
The Governor signed legislation to formaly appologize to the black community for slavery, that was a political waste of time.
Forgiveness is a process even among the most devoted Christians..

Acceptance is the key. “Suggestions” ?

Thank you hotcollards and Ms. Helen for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this blog.

Strange Mr “Meir” is burning Klan robes, he never had the right or authority to wear one, perhaps he borrowed one from someone. He was only a real Klansman for 7 months, I suspect his knowledge is a bit shaky in regards to the Klan, we are profoundly grateful he has dropped the Ku Klux from this clubs moniker we certainly do NOT want anyone to confuse him or his club with the Ku Klux Klan.

  22. Amvoyce says:

correction the web address is please excuse the typo.

  23. Ken Mier says:

Thank you Mr. Pierce for confirming my investigation
It only took 7 months to realize that Many Ku Klux Klan organizations were still a biligerant and hateful organization that has taken on the munipulation tactics of brainwashing by teaching and insisting on members to accept the KKK interpretation of the Christian Identity Doctrine.

Sadly it was realized that the LLC stood behind the actions and public displays of hate by Groups such as the “CHURCH’ of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan place the LLC in the same catagory with so many others

The initial interest to look closely at your group was the fact that on your site, the LLC insisted on Christian Deportment, I have seen some remarkable fellowship. However underneath the surface lay a devious plan to continue to humiliate the true Christians of todays society.

The Church of the National Knights have canceled their Cullman event, We consider that a Victory for the Christian Families of Central Alabama.

    Happy Birthday Jesus
