If you live inside the city limits of Birmingham, be sure to go to the polls tomorrow and cast your vote for mayor. Let me know which candidate you’re supporting and why; I’ve followed the race from a distance, but I have a better idea of who wouldn’t get my vote than who would.
If you’re in District 3, vote for Howard Bayless for School Board. I’ve known Howard for years, and I have seen his dedication and commitment when he’s working for a cause he believes in. And the Birmingham News agrees.
I still haven’t finalized my decision — but I’m leaning toward Cooper. I love Valerie Abbott, but I just don’t know that an “insider” can do anything but give us more of the same.
And after Arrington came out in support of Kincaid, my brain exploded and I’m still trying to sort out where all the pieces went.
Also… vote Howard!!!!
Thanks, Tricia. Most city-dwellers I’ve talked to are going with either Cooper or Bell, but my sample size is quite small.
Oh, and I hope you get those brain-pieces sorted soon. That Arrington endorsement was indeed mind-blowing.
There are moments when I wish I still had my Chamber of Commerce connections so I’d have the inside scoop on stuff like that, but they pass quickly…
I couldn’t vote for Bell — I’ve been around Birmingham way too long to think that’d be a good idea. Even if he has pissed off the last remnants of the machine somehow.
Whoever wins it’s up to the citizens to drive the agenda. Apathy leads to all sorts of mischief.
I’ve forwarded to Kathy a message from Valerie Abbott. It seems someone engaged in a black op, sending out a smear sheet supposedly from her campaign; but as Valerie notes, “you can easily tell that it isn’t mine because it has both a misspelled word and improper grammar in it!”
I’m excited about Howard’s candidacy and have been involved a little in his campaign–will be pulling a little duty at the Botanical Garden tomorrow.
Here’s an invite from howard’s campaign: VICTORY PARTY! 7PM-10PM Amani Raha Martini Bar 2901 2nd Avenue South Birmingham, AL 35233 Open Bar, hors d’oeuvres, Come Celebrate With US. ALL are welcome! Bring your friends!!
