Bush Vetoes SCHIP

Surprise, surprise.

The Senate can override the veto, but the House was 24 votes short of a veto-proof majority. House leaders plan to hold a new vote on October 17, giving time to work on more support. I’ll be calling my Representative — again. Maybe this time he’ll follow the recommendation of our Republican governor, who actually does care about children.

Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said, “Today the president showed the nation his true priorities: $700 billion for a war in Iraq, but no health care for low-income kids.”

Compassionate conservative, my ass.
