A politician who shall not be named because I refuse to type it, backed McDermott in District 1 and Johnson in District 2 (where my husband was running). Their entire campaign was based on being against Richard Arrington, which in the eastern area of Birmingham was the code word for black people in general. It was a nasty race and I was glad McDermott got beat even though I'm not too fond of his successor. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty, but I must admit to a touch of Schadenfreude.
