Surprise, Surprise: Troy’s Still Not Apologizing

Troy King held another press conference this afternoon to reiterate his refusal to apologize to Shelby County DA Robby Owens for publicly castigating him regarding the LaSamuel Gamble case. Gee, Troy, when even your mentor Bob Riley says you should have handled this privately, you might want to consider SHUTTING UP.

“Given an option of playing the debate out in public or allowing the people in the debate to get together in a room, close the door and work it out, sure, I think the latter would be more advisable,” he [Riley] said.

Sounds like a plan to me. At this point, there’s little to be gained from continuing to play out this dispute in front of the media — well, except for it being in front of the media, which is usually reason enough for Troy.

In an interesting twist, Blues reader Helen pointed out over at Danny’s that Houston County DA Doug Valeska, the lone dissenting DA, is the brother of Assistant AG Don Valeska, who is not exactly known for his high ethical standards and commitment to justice. He has long been suspected of withholding evidence from defense attorneys in criminal cases, and in 2003 he was caught, resulting in an overturned capital murder conviction.

Circuit Court Judge Glenn Thompson on March 21 [2003] overturned the capital murder conviction of Daniel Wade Moore and granted him a new trial after concluding the Valeska-led prosecution withheld key evidence from the defense. Allegations of similar conduct have followed 59-year-old Valeska throughout his career…

…Thompson overturned Moore’s murder conviction and death sentence “based entirely upon the prosecution’s failure to comply with this court’s orders regarding discovery.

“The court finds that the prosecution’s failure to comply with its discovery order constitutes an injustice to the defendant which cannot be tolerated,” Thompson wrote.

It’s telling that he’s still employed in the AG’s office. Anything to win, I guess. Who cares if we subvert the justice system?

Judge Thompson was kicked off of that case for his overt bias against Valeska.

    Kathy:

Leave Troy King alone! He is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of this State. You are not!! You have pictures of puppies and Kittens on your web site. What about children.

You heard stories of children slashed and tortured. If they were dogs or cats you would have been outraged!

You said that the sadistic murderers will rot in prison, with life without parole. What about the non violent offenders they will brutalize!

  3. Kathy says:

Tom, have you considered making a Chris Crocker-like video for Troy? You’re really starting to sound like him. “Leave Troy King alone! Leave him alone!!!” Sounds like you love him as much as Chris loves Britney Spears. Sorry if you don’t like it when citizens express negative opinions about elected officials, but that’s the inevitable result of what some of us call the First Amendment. (BTW, that link is NSFW, but I’m sure you can clean up the language for your version.)

Daniel, please link to your source.

  4. Roy says:

I tell you what, Tom, when you come in higher than fourth in your next bid for elected office you can start telling people what to think and say.

  5. Tom Davis says:

    Roy: Check your facts

On June 6th, Greg Canfield led the Primary with 3,992 votes (44%). Tom Davis gathered 1,638 votes (18%). Della Fancher placed second with 2,570 votes (28%).

Greg Canfield welcomed the endorsement of Tom Davis. “I appreciate and value Mr. Davis’ support and endorsement of my candidacy in the Run-off on July 18th,” said Canfield. “Tom Davis’ grassroots support in Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Cahaba Heights, and Shelby County was evident in this election. I look forward to earning his supporters vote,” stated Canfield.

My shenanigans senses are tingling regarding certain comments made here and elsewhere. Seems to happen a lot when Troy King’s name is mentioned.

  7. “….you might want to consider SHUTTING UP.”

No! Please, Troy, keep talking! Call a press conference every single day. The more you talk, the more idiotic you look and the better the chance that we’ll get someone less lunatic the next time. You’re destroying any chance you might have of winning any other office. And that is fine with me.

  8. Anne Glamore says:

Thanks for solving the mystery of who the holdout DA was. I couldn’t find out from the News.

  9. Bill says:

    Tom is SERIOUS??????????

  10. Kathy says:

See, Roy? Tom came in third, so I guess that means he does get to tell me — oh, wait — no, he doesn’t. ALMod, I’m beginning to think that Tom is auditioning to be Troy’s campaign manager in 2010, which, as Lisa points out, is likely to be a losing proposition. Anne, you’re welcome, and Bill, yes he is.

    Kathy:

I respect your blog and would not do anything to disrespect you, your blog, or your blog readers.

The Attorney General’s Office has always been a lightning rod. He will be criticized whatever he does. It is seldom a stepping stone for higher office because it is so controversial.

I personally like Troy King. He has impressed alot of people who have actually met him and for good reasons.

Although, he can appear theatrical. I like his speaking style. His real strength is talking with people one to one.

I doubt he would want me to be his campaign manager. I am too old. That is really a young persons game.
At this point in my life, I just wish to live out the thoughts of Hellen Keller

“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do. “

  12. ALmod says:

    lol!

Kathy, the thing I was getting at is that this whole situation is mildly reminiscent of a certain other poster who used to frequent Dan’s and Wheeler’s blogs whenever King’s name was mentioned. Funny how I’ve forgotten his name, but I’m sure someone else here remembers him.
