As I write this I am hoping that you all are having an enjoyable day of rest from your labors.
It is my wish that all of us take time to reflect about exactly what this holiday symbolizes. I hope that we will all educate ourselves and remember how others sacrificed so that we now have labor laws that do not allow us to work outrageous hours in horrible conditions; laws that force the CEO’s to maintain safe environments for us to work in every day (fire exits, etc.). People actually died while standing up against corporations that basically treated their employees as slaves.
As we go about our day-to-day labors and responsibilities, I think we take for granted just how good we have it today in comparison to the workers that were the backbone of this country in the early 1900’s.
For the younger generations, I suggest you watch the old Sylvestor Stallone movie, “Fist”. It will give you just a small idea of how ugly it was before laws protected the workers.
I urge you all to today and every day, please remember the courage of those that stood up for all of us.
