John Warner (R-VA) announced today that he will not run for re-election in 2008. Just off the top of my head, I’d say this leaves the race wide open. Popular former governor Mark Warner, a Democrat (and no relation to the senator), is likely to throw his hat in the ring.
Warner’s 80, so I guess it’s time for him to retire, but I have to wonder if he, and some of the other old-time Repubs, are just sick and tired of the bullshit. The Republican party they served no longer exists. The hyper-partisan sniping, the war-mongering, the corruption, and the hypocrisy must get old after a few years.
