Libby Gets Prison Sentence
MSNBC is reporting that Scooter Libby has been sentenced to thirty months in prison. The reporter is saying that he will remain free pending appeal. More details as they come.
UPDATE: also $250,000 in fines (of a potential $1,000,000). I’m sure the donors to his legal defense fund will pick up the tab for that. Pat Buchanan, of all people, is defending the sentence.
UPDATE 2: Libby has left the building, without comment. No decision yet on whether he will stay out of jail while he appeals.
Walton did not set a date for Libby to report to prison. Though he saw no reason to let Libby remain free pending appeal, Walton said he would accept written arguments on the issue and rule later.

Maybe Paris Hilton can give him some prison survival tips!

“Maybe Paris Hilton can give him some prison survival tips!”
At least he won’t have to worry about being forced to give up his hair extensions.

Republican Prosecutor asks for three years for Libby, but gets two and one half.
Republican Prosecutor asks for 30 years for Siegelman?
Libby’s crime threatened to expose an undercover CIA agent.
Siegelman’s crime involved no personal gain but it did put Scrushy on a board (unprosecuted) previous governors had put him on.
It seems like there is a little disparity in the sentences the Department of Justice is asking for.

Yeah, just a little disparity. And some of the same people who want Siegelman to die in prison think Scooter should have been given probation. Cognitive dissonance much?

Sorry, Jennifer, but the English major doesn’t get to pretend she doesn’t know what the big words mean.
