This must be a good week for lawsuits. The AEA is not happy with the hiring of Sen. Bradley Byrne (R-Mobile) to run Alabama’s troubled two-year college system. It’s suing, alleging the state school board violated its own procedures when it hired Sen. Byrne to replace Renee Culverhouse, who resigned in early May.
Call me a cynic, but I doubt this suit is really about procedure. Don’t know what it is about, but I’d guess Paul Hubbert doesn’t like Byrne because Byrne was handpicked by Bob Riley. Feel free to speculate in the comments.
Hubbert doesn’t want Byrne to clean up the system and prevent Hubbert’s lackeys being double-dippers because that would diminish Hubbert’s control of OUR legislature.
My guess is that they know Byrne is going to get in there and kick some serious butt. He is way too smart to be baffled or otherwise impeded by any Professional Educator bs. and he isn’t interested in lining up to dance when the band strikes up the ol’ Hubbert Reel.
But then I have made it clear before that I am a Byrne fan.
Cross post, Don.
No juicy details from inside to share as of now. Sorry.
Looks like it’s in the judge’s lap for a bit. He’s looking over old minutes and policies/procedures.
I predict the Governor will, if he hasn’t already, go on record as saying they have followed the policies and state law; no open meetings violations happened; and anyone who wants to get in the way of progress in cleaning up the 2-year colleges mess (as he shakes his head sadly) just wants the “gravy train” to roll on, or words to that effect.
Jeff, if you find out anything you can share, please fill us in.
I thought I had checked the “Notify me” thingy when I posted my comment and I was wondering why no one else had commented (one of those Senior Moments, I guess).
Del, what does “Cross post, Don” mean?
It means we both posted roughly the same thing at the same time, and explains why I failed to acknowledge your very similar point as I expressed mine.
Like “our letters crossed in the mail,” and not like “My, but you’re cross as two sticks this morning, Don!”
Thanks, Del. I’m still learning.
