What Hearing Was He Watching?

Bush was pleased with Alberto Gonzales’ performance at today’s hearings, and “the Attorney General has the full confidence of the President”, according to a White House press release.  Apparently, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) didn’t get the memo, because he called for Gonzales to resign during his questioning.

There “has to be consequences” for the management and leadership failure under Gonzales’ watch. It’s “generous to say that there were misstatements” by Gonzales and others, Coburn said. “I believe that you ought to suffer the consequences,” he said, adding that Gonzales ought to be judged by the same standards with which he judged the U.S. attorneys.

Maybe it’s Bush who missed the memo; with the exception of Orrin Hatch, the Republican members of the Judiciary Committee raked Gonzales over the coals today.  They’ve had it with his “misstatements” and incompetence, and I suspect they think it’s time for him to fall on his sword.  We’ll see if he got the message.

    Kathy,

I had to smile at the title. I’m a republican, but I’m a realist too. That’s what we need! A real 3rd party called the POR party. (Party of Reality)
    :)

Thanks, Kimberly! A little reality would be a refreshing change.

    I’ll join Kimberly’s party.

Okay Bill! Now, for our POR party what shall our platform be? I can think of two right off the starting line….no three………

#1. There shall be no “campaign finance limitations.” That way no one has to lie about accepting any 2nd party donations, or any “misappropriated” funds.

#2. Remember…we’re all about reality. So, the reality is GUNS SUCK! Now, I know in history the first weapon was a rock. And our blessed founding fathers wanted the right to bear arms. There were lots of wild animals roaming the land back then. Now, it’s changed and the wild animals are mainly human. We don’t need 9mm, Ak-47s, 22 automatics for hunting! Therefore…we’re rid of them! (I know…not very republican)

#3. We’re removing the doors in all of Washington. All business is conducted in the open and email is read by everyone! :)

How’s that for the introduction of reality? Now, for 20 years my husband has debated me over guns, so I’m willing to debate…I’m just not changing my convictions. :)

Kimberly, I’m right there with you. I don’t think hunters need assault weapons. What’s next? The right to bear shoulder-fired rocket launchers? Because those will sure take out the deer. :(

  6. chris Says:

how about we destroy modern weaponry and issue every citizen whatever was the latest and greatest gun in 1776 and be done with it?

  7. Kathy Says:

Sounds like a plan, Chris. :)

Did you know that if you take Ambien and stay up you hallucinate? Did we see this in action from the WH?

Kathy: Do you know of a blog or document that has compiled the records of the attys, both fired and unfired, to compare their stats on prosecutions, etc? It would be very interesting to see the numbers, particularly if some of those who were fired were successful in all but kowtowing to the WH.

  10. Kathy Says:

Here’s one article indicating that three of the fired prosecutors were in the top 10 for USA prosecutions and convictions over the past five years. I’ll see what else I can find.

  11. Kathy Says:

And here’s a Washington Post summary of performance evaluations and major cases handled for the eight fired USAs.
