He Can’t Be Serious
Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-and, to my shame, my Congressman), speaking at a Montevallo barbecue yesterday:
“We could lose Iraq and survive; we lost Vietnam and survived, but if we lose this battle over gay marriage, we are doomed,” he said.
Uh, Spencer, Canada is still alive and kicking. Massachusetts hasn’t fallen into the sea. And your comment is looney tunes.
Hat tip, Blues reader Ken.
UPDATE: Wheeler agrees with me.

“We could lose Iraq and survive; we lost Vietnam and survived, but if we lose this battle over (insert issue guaranteed to rile up the base here: gay marriage, illegal immigrants, religious signs on baseball fields, etc., here), we are doomed,” he said.
Not even an election year, Mr. Bachus — why waste it?

Not only isn’t it an election year, I can’t remember when he last had any opposition. Maybe 2008? I can hope.

OK, that fucking does it. He is calling MY CHILD the “doom” of our country. I will run against the SOB myself. Who’s with me?

Kathy I will even agree with you on this one. Especially with his comment about Iraq. Now THAT was REALLY stupid and uniformed. He must be half democrat by that statement!!

Lisa, I’ll vote for you!

Earth to Spencer…..is anyone home out there?

I’ll go ahead and say I’ll vote for you too since it looks like my new home is going to be about 500 feet back into Bachus’ district. It was really nice having Davis as a Congressman for about a year.

well Lisa, I can’t vote for you (Davis is my rep - yay!) but I will campaign for you! Bachus is a jerk - what a stupid, offensive thing to say. doomed? what the hell does that mean? doomed to let other people be happy with the partners of their choice? gosh, how scary and how dangerous for one’s own relationship. not.

I’m hearing rumors of opposition already, but I don’t have a name. Let me ask my spies. If it’s someone we can all get behind, great. If not, Lisa for Congress!

Bachus is my rep, too. Yuck! I can honestly say I didn’t vote for him this last time, though. I was one of those troublesome write-in voters who voted for Warren Grayson. Grayson didn’t give a platform, and I didn’t need one. I was just determined not to vote for Bachus. Pretty sad.
Lisa, if you want to run, I’ll vote for you. Just make sure you sign with one of the two major parties. Otherwise, you won’t even get on the ticket.

I need to stop moving, I don’t know who my rep is anymore
