Fox, Meet Henhouse
(Now former) Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, just a month shy of pleading guilty to charges brought by US Attorney Carol Lam, signed on to a letter criticizing her “lax” handling of immigration cases. That is the definition of chutzpah.
But I’m sure there was no political motivation whatsoever.
(Oh, btw, Cunningham’s now serving eight years and four months for conspiracy and tax evasion, and despite Carol Lam’s firing, his associates Kyle “Dusty” Foggo (former #3 at the CIA) and Brent Wilkes, also face serious charges. I guess Gonzales didn’t get rid of her fast enough.)

I wonder how long it will be before Don Siegelman appeals his federal conviction based on the apparently overwhelming evidence that U.S. Attorneys were forced to pursue political cases against Democrats?
That’s the real tragedy in this whole scandal - that every prosecution of an elected official is now questionable. And in Siegelman’s case, he could have a point. In light of everything that’s come out, his indictment and prosecution could very well have been strictly political.

This is indeed the core of the problem. If our US Attorney system is compromised by partisan politics, none of us can trust it. Bushco may believe that loyalty trumps competence and principles, but I would hope the rest of the country would reject that idea.

But unfortunately, they may have stopped Ms. Lam’s investigation into (current) Republican Congressman Lewis (R-CA).

At least she squeezed in charges against Dusty Foggo and Brent Wilkes before she was ushered out the door.
