Scapegoat Bites Back

Kyle Sampson wants to testify.

The former chief of staff to Alberto Gonzales, US attorney-general, has told lawmakers he wants to testify under oath to Congress about what officials in the Bush administration knew about the firing of US attorneys for allegedly political reasons.

Kyle Sampson, the deputy, abruptly resigned from the Department of Justice last week after e-mail messages were released that showed he had extensive talks with the White House over the firings.

His testimony could put further pressure on Mr Gonzales to resign if it raises questions about the truthfulness of comments from senior officials who have said they were not aware of the discussions.

If it raises questions about the truthfulness of comments from senior officials?  More like when.  If I were Mr. Sampson, I’d be asking for a bodyguard right about now.

Is it finally time for Humpty Dumpty to fall down? Or is this yet another false alarm?

I thought the NSA wiretapping would do it, but that was well over a year ago now and it seems peachy.
