Kathy, it seems to be part of the job description for many politicians, once elected to office, to consider it beneath their dignity to associate with us mere citizens. Go read how many of them failed to show up for the League of Women Voters’ breakfast meeting yesterday in Tuscaloosa @ http://www.tuscaloosanews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070126/NEWS/701260329/1007/NEWS02

Don, you're right. I guess I'm just beyond frustrated with the lack of responsiveness from our so-called leaders. They aren't interested in giving up one iota of their power. I attended a session on constitutional reform yesterday that was sponsored by the Vestavia Hills Friends of the Library group (they have a different speaker/topic every month). The two state reps from the area (Jack Williams and Greg Canfield) showed up for the meet and greet refreshment time beforehand but were long gone when the presentation began -- the better to avoid hard questions from the audience members, who appeared to be unanimous in their support for a new governing document and a bit impatient with the Legislature for avoiding the subject.

OTOH, Jim Sharp, one of our local city council members, stayed for the whole thing and even offered to ask the council to pass a resolution in support of a constitutional convention. Purely symbolic, of course, but powerful nonetheless. Maybe I can talk him into running for statewide office.

For what it’s worth I believe there’s a way to help clean up our state government if enough voters will follow the three steps described under the heading of “WHAT EVERY CIVIC MINDED VOTER NEEDS TO DO” about half way down the page @ http://www.doctoriq.com/youcan.htm and if they don’t we will continue to have business as usual.

Oh, and I'm already on Troy's sh*t list. A couple of years ago, I wrote a letter to the editor castigating him on his lack of understanding of domestic violence issues, and he actually answered it. He was not happy. I've noticed he makes a habit of responding to public criticism with various versions of, "How dare you question me, lowly citizen?" Seems a little thin-skinned for a public official who dreams of higher office.

At least Troy won't be overseeing that particular ethics investigation, seeing how he was forced to recuse himself. I'm not surprised at Troy's personal ambition, but if Bob Riley is grooming Troy to be his replacement, I will officially lose all respect for him.

You all should be nicer to our future Governor. Troy's just a good ol' boy... never meanin' no harm...

Speaking of ethics, I work in the 2-year college system. We now have a policy in place which basically precludes anyone from hiring anyone even distantly related to anyone else, anywhere, ever. I exaggerate only slightly. Yet somehow they've declined to give it any teeth, this policy -- or else a bunch of people are about to be shown the door for their family ties.

...The power company had offered for us, when we went for them to sing the national anthem, to sit in seats in their suite. The choir ultimately ended up canceling the trip because they did not have enough choir members sign up to go," King said when asked about the event.

I think the really scary part about this is he actually made it through law school!!! He is soooooooo eloquent!!

Lets not insult the $2 hookers. After all, Jesus favored the hookers over the hypocrites! I'm sure King would disagree, though.
