Steve M. at No More Mister Nice Blog has two stories that show the depths to which the right wing will sink to slime Democratic presidential contenders. First, an “analysis” of Barack Obama’s candidacy that not only maligns him but also trashes Tiger Woods’ parents (let me clarify: it’s the offhand comment about Obama’s parents — absent African dad, white mom — and the assumption that Tiger Woods grew up in the same situation that irritated me, and Steve refuted this statement quite well). Those of you who are longtime readers here know that I’m a huge Tiger fan, and I’m really offended at the ignorance displayed in the piece. Second, a Newbusters critique of the background in Hillary Clinton’s announcement webcast. Because a slo-mo replay shows a — wait for it — flower blooming. Oh my God! Call the police right now and put the woman straight in jail. She had a flower, and it was a yellow one — you know, for cowardice or something — right there in the background as she announced she’s running for president.
Of course, the real problem the folks at Newsbusters have with Sen. Clinton is that she planned in advance to run for President. As I said over at Steve’s place, she, as a woman, is supposed to pretend that she has no ambition. She’s supposed to act surprised, and grateful, that all the nice men have allowed her the opportunity to be part of their primary. She’s not supposed to strategize, she’s not supposed to play hardball, and she’s not supposed to win. Sorry, wingers, but this is not your Grandma’s candidate. Get over it. And get a life too. Don’t spend it on slow-motion analyses of Democratic videos. You’ll go blind. And you won’t have nearly as much fun as you would doing the other thing that causes blindness.
I don’t think that I can even dignify this with a response.
Didn’t the dems slo-mo analyze somebody’s video last year, and complain that the word “democrats” faded leaving only the subliminal impression “rats”? I’m just sayin’. Subliminal flowers are much gentler than subliminal rats. Maybe Hil isn’t as good at playing hardball as you think.
I don’t see how the other thing is trashing Tiger’s parents. Do you mean the stuff about his dad coughing on the backswing to toughen him up? I thought it was praising him, or at least intending to praise him.

This is the comment that I found offensive, and Steve deconstructs it quite well in his post. The offhand remark shows the ignorance of the writer — Tiger Woods’ parents are nothing like Barack Obama’s parents — which makes her overall trashing of Obama even more suspect.
Okay, I clicked on the wrong link. Delving ever backward from Nice Blog I ended up at the USA Today story about Tiger and his fab dad. Mea culpa, etc. Time to head for more coffee.
However, I agree with her to the extent that Obama is like Tiger in that he is black, but not Black. Not Black-power black. I think she was referring more to his “racial” makeup than his father’s parenting skills. And it’s notable that Jesse Jackson isn’t supporting him, not yet anyway.
