Saddam’s Execution Is Imminent…

…but I can’t celebrate.  Yes, he’s a terrible man who is responsible for atrocities I don’t want to imagine.  But where’s our moral high ground?  We’ll be complicit in the taking of one more life.  A quick and easy death won’t repay Saddam for what he’s done, and it won’t help to unite this fractured world we occupy.  Why is an execution better than life in prison?  I see no upside.

If you’re interested in what it seems like from inside Iraq, check out the Riverbend blog at This woman doesn’t get to write much thanks to the power outages over there, but she surely gives pause to anyone thinking our intentions are pure.

Oh dear God, Cindi — that is heartbreaking. It makes me so ashamed of what we have done to Iraq.

dont give that man a second thought, did he care about all the children and innocent people he had killed just to get respect and fear from his own people.

  4. Kathy says:

Robert, I’m not motivated by any sympathy for Saddam Hussein. I’m motivated by sympathy for the Iraqi people and disgust with the US government leaders who first helped to put Saddam in power and then decided to take him out when, once again, supporting a dictator turned out to be a bad idea.
