Well, not quite that bad. We left Birmingham about 3:30 for a trip that normally takes a little over three hours. We planned to stop in Anniston and pick up oldest daughter and her dog, so that would have added maybe 45 minutes. I dozed off and woke up to find traffic on I-20 at a dead stop just short of our exit (no, I wasn’t driving
). We sat for 40 minutes without moving. People were out of their cars walking around, talking on their cell phones, and trying to figure out why we were sitting. We finally turned around and drove the wrong way on the side of the road back to the previous exit ramp, cut over to the back road and made it to Anniston about 6 pm.
After more slow traffic, a dinner stop, and lots of drizzling rain, we made it to our destination at 10 pm. Five people, two dogs, and a really bad attitude. We never did find out what happened on the interstate. Did it make the evening news in Birmingham?
