Baxley Makes Some Concrete Proposals — Finally

Lucy Baxley has released a list of nine priorities that are the focus of her campaign for governor. They include an increase in the state minimum wage, a ban on PAC-to-PAC transfers, and a return to assessments of property values every four years. I’m happy to see that her platform avoids any gay-bashing or forced religiosity. After seeing some parts of the “Covenant” presented by Democratic legislative leaders a couple of days ago, I was worried that the party had lost its collective mind.

The Riley campaign was dismissive of her announcement, continuing the negative tone that has surprised many people here in Alabama. Dan at Between the Links has covered the attack ads in detail. I’m disappointed and, frankly, confused as to why Riley is doing this. He has a substantial lead in the polls and a good record on which to run. Is there some personal animosity between Riley and Baxley?

Anyway, I’m glad to see something concrete coming out of the Baxley campaign. Going up against a popular incumbent isn’t easy, and it takes more than just saying, “I’m not him.”
