Of course, I only voted in two races, but both my candidates won: Mike Graffeo is the Democratic nominee for Circuit Court judge, and Ron McGuffie whipped convicted criminal Ron Blankenship to become the Dem nominee for Jefferson County sheriff. And it looks like Patricia Todd squeaked by Gaynell Hendricks in House district 54 to become the first out lesbian elected to serve in the Alabama legislature (there’s no Republican candidate). Cool!
I think we should have a pool. First legislator to denounce Todd from the floor. First legislator to say he’s afraid Todd will give him AIDS. First legislator to say that Todd shouldn’t be allowed near children. I say Gerald Allen, Gerald Allen, Gerald Allen.
I think it’s still too early to call Todd a win, but it’s likely. Glad to hear that wacko didn’t win JeffCo Sherrif by the way.
Mac, someone is going to do it the first day (denounce from the floor).
Mac, I’d say you have that one pegged. Unless it’s Hank Erwin.
I dealt with Hank Erwin when I was fighting a bill he’d introduced and he’s actually a nice guy, just a little misdirected. Okay, a lot misdirected. But he’s not mean, and he seems to respect other legislators. I don’t know if the same can be said about Allen.
Lisa,
That is interesting, I have had the opposite impression. Damn, I wish these people would quit screaming about family values and talk about what they’re really about……then perhaps we would find out the emperor (John Giles) has no clothes! Now there’s an ugly visual……
I’ve found there’s often a disconnect between an elected official’s public pronouncements (e.g. hurricanes are a punishment from God) and how they work with their fellow legislators. You get a different perspective when you’re down there among ‘em.
Interestingly, the bill I was fighting had to do with billboards – Sen. Erwin wanted billboards that had been knocked down by hurricanes to be allowed rebuilding even if they violated the federal highway beautification act. I had to hold my tongue, but I wanted to ask him, if hurricanes were messages from God, why he wanted to put back up a billboard that God Himself has knocked down.
How about the elections in for your neighbors in Georgia. My favorite congresswoman Cynthia McKinney has to go to a run off. Oh boy do I hope she wins.
My favorite is Ralph Reed getting his hypocritical *ss kicked. I could do without Ms. McKinney and her dramatics.
Agreed.
Kathy and BL,
I’m glad to know the two of you are both moderate enough to recognize that McKinney and Reed are both too far out and/or ethically challenged to merit support. Isn’t being an independent fun????????
I have no idea who either of those people are. I feel dumb now.
Anna, if you’re talking about Ralph Reed and Cynthia McKinney, let me assure you that you haven’t missed a thing.
