When the Birmingham News starts quoting you, you know you’ve made it. Today’s News has a story about an effort to “draft” Jeff Sessions to run for president in 2008. At the end of the article is this nugget of wisdom from Dan at Between the Links:
The Sessions for President scheme has gotten a bit of play in the corner of the blogosphere that dabbles in Alabama politics. Dan Roberts at www.betweenthelinks.com titles his thread, “The worst thing that could ever happen.”
“I refuse to play strategic politics, but the only good thing that could come out of this is that it might free up his Senate seat for 2008, when he is up for re-election,” Roberts wrote.
I agree! And it’s cool to see one of our own recognized in the mainstream media. Keep up the good work, Dan.
[...] Kathy and Wheeler both add their congratulations to Dan at Between The Links [...]
Um, great for Dan at Between The Links, but aren’t we missing the point here? JEFF SESSIONS is being considered for a run for PRESIDENT? Shouldn’t we be preparing for this eventuality by, say, transferring our wealth into gemstones that can be sewn into the hems of our coats? Or at least buying more duct tape and Vienna sausages?
It is a terrifying thought. I’m going to make sure my passport is up-to-date.
Sessions is in the top 3 when it comes to sheer unadulterated stupidity in the Senate. He was too dumb to be a judge, and given what makes it through the Senate, that’s saying something. Cornyn is pretty good, and Inhofe is right up there, but Sessions often rushes by them at the finish. There’s gotta’ be some inbreedin’ in there somewhere.
“I’m going to make sure my passport is up-to-date.”
Yeah. Like they’re gonna let you use it to GO anywhere.
We could market craft kits for turning the leatherette covers into clever coin purses.
Sessions for President is not nearly as scary as Hillary Clinton for President would be. Now that would be devastating.
Sorry, BL. That dog don’t hunt. I know you despise Clinton. But Jeff Sessions is a complete and total idiot. If your party nominates him, it would be the absolute end of any credibility they have with those of us who proudly call ourselves independents.
I would also argue the Hillary is a morally bankrupt career politician that chooses statements based on polls and not personal convictions. Not to mention the fact she is more dangerous than your average idiot because although she is an idiot, she doesn’t think she is. That is dangerous, so yes that dog does hunt. (Plus Sessions is not nearly as likely to get the nomination, but Hillary is likely to get it. Sort of like getting hit in the head by a meteor would be bad but not likely, whereas getting in a bad car accident would be bad and more likely).
Come on, BL. She may be wrong about a lot of things, but she’s not an idiot. You are intelligent enough to know that underestimating your adversary is a very dangerous thing. I happen to think Scalia is terrible for the country because I believe he is so wrong, but he is no idiot.
Believe me, I am a citizen of Jeff Sessions’ state. I have seen him live. He is an idiot. Book it.
I don’t under estimate her ability to pull the wool over the eyes of people, that is one skill she is quite adept at accomplishing. That combined with apathy may be just enough to get her into office.
