BellSouth Says It Didn’t Give Records To NSA

BellSouth now says it can’t find any record of a contract to give call records to the NSA. Gee, if it were me, I think I’d remember if the NSA showed up and asked for information.

I hope they’re telling the truth. I wasn’t looking forward to the hassle of finding a new phone and Internet service provider.

It occurred to me this afternoon that my mom owns a heck of a lot of shares of BellSouth (dad worked 40+ years for Ma Bell). So I’m, like, torn on the class action suit thing.

Kathy, a big company like Bellsouth is going to want to make sure they have their information right. They probably have dozens of corporate departments, as well as regional offices with their own access to data, etc. That it took them 3 business day to figure out they weren’t involved isn’t so bad.

  3. Kathy says:

Yeah, Poser, I figured that. I just thought a visit from the NSA would make a bigger impression. Maybe they aren’t that intimidating… ;)

I’m glad British Telecom isn’t involved either. And my daughter in the US has Qwest. So we’re freed from hassle too.

  5. Jennifer says:

Call me cynical – but I don’t believe them.

    I’m with Jennifer.

I interviewed with the NSA once during a thing on campus. The room was full of suits and professionals and MBAs. Even the students were at least wearing a tie. Except for the NSA table. It was a slobby woman in shorts and a sweatshirt. I decided not to work for them.

Sounds like my kind of job. Plus, you get to nose around in other people’s business! Where can I sign up?

I’m with Jennifer and Anna — no not actually and that’s my loss, being the compulsive flirt that I am — but on not believing them. I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t believe anyone any longer, including myself at times.

  10. LOL DON! I was going to post the same thing. I’m also with Anna and Jennifer, and now I’m agree with you as well. I do not trust the company I am with, myself, (BellSouth), as I am hearing beeps, and long pauses on my phone. I know there is nothing wrong with my phone, as it happened on the last cordless phone I had. I figured that one had used up the life of it’s battery, so I got a new one recently. It still does the beeps every now and then, and long pauses when I am talking to just about everyone. Can anyone explain this to me? I am wondering about if it is tapped? Bellsouth assured me I could contact my local sheriff’s Department to report it, but I don’t think so!! They would be the FIRST to tap my lines. ROFLMAO!! Thank God I’m not running for sheriff this year. I had the beeps and pauses when I was running in 2002.
