Aren’t We Proud…

NOT! Larry Darby and other white supremacists were heckled at a New Jersey gathering yesterday.

Larry Darby was the guest speaker at the National Vanguard New Jersey’s monthly meeting at the Juvenile Order of United Automechanics (JOUAM) Hall, the nationwide group’s local chapter headquarters. The National Vanguard, which describes itself as a white nationalist group, is a splinter group of the white supremacist organization, National Alliance.

…More than 20 people attended Saturday’s closed-door meeting with Darby, which began shortly after 6 p.m. Many National Vanguard members, who blocked their license plates with plywood to conceal their identity, hurried inside and refused to speak to a reporter.

Outside, protesters held placards and heckled people headed into the building. Some of those attending the meeting stopped and exchanged words with protesters, but discussions never became heated. A half dozen police officers stood outside of the hall to keep protesters at bay.

The demonstrators said they wanted to call attention to a hateful organization they say is tarnishing the image of Elmwood Park.

Once again, Alabama gets a national, and even international, black eye — yes, fellow citizens, the Jerusalem Post picked up the AP article about Larry and his racist, Holocaust-denying views. He’s still on the Alabama Democratic ticket as a candidate for Attorney General, but I hope that will change before the June 6 primary. If not, I guess we’ll get to see how many fringe kooks still vote Democratic in Alabama.

If anyone’s interested, there is an informative commentary about Larry Darby, “Alabama Racist is Democratic, not Libertarian”, @ http://hammeroftruth.com/2006/05/14/alabama-racist-puke-is-democratic-not-libertarian/.

So, like, just the way we’re torn between voting for Riley or Baxley, there are some folks out there in Alabama torn between voting for Roy or this nut? Not an exact parallel, but still.

  3. Kathy says:

Del, I was thinking today that Alabama has been known for its religious nuts and now it’s known for an anti-religious Holocaust-denying racist. We can’t win.

And Don, I bet the Libertarians are really glad Larry took a hike.

  4. Del says:

That does knock out my theory though–if you’re a Christian racist bigot, you’d probably have to pick Brother Roy over the atheist, even if you admired the racist’s proud stance on the Holocaust myth.

  5. Don says:

Kathy, Hon, you’ll have to ask the Libertarians how they feel, ’cause I’m just a poor old crackpot fiercely independent.

  6. Kathy says:

Don, after reading the link you sent, I’d say they told him not to let the screen door hit him in the *ss on his way out. I hope the Dems do the same.
