Suburban Birmingham Post Office Evacuated After Chemical Scare

Well, sorta. CNN was all fired up for the next anthrax attack, but it turned out to be methyl chloride, which is apparently used to manufacture fishing lures. There is a bait shop that makes plastic worms located close to the post office.

This wasn’t as minor as it sounds, though; twenty-three people went to the hospital after exposure to the leaking package.

Exposure to humans can cause dizziness and nausea, according to the Environmental Protect Agency’s Web site.

I wonder how much of this chemical stays on or in fishing lures and ends up in our water. Yuck! I think the fish, and the rest of us, might prefer real worms.

Humans make me dizzy all the time. Especially when they work at the EPA. Skin bags…

I remember going to the neighborhood hardware store with my daddy when I was very little. There was an open bin of those worms on a bottom shelf, and I’d plunge both hands in. I loved the way they felt—and smelled. Great, now I’ll probably get cancer.

Sorry, Del! Yet another thing to worry about.

Del’s comment makes those “gummy worms” sound almost sexually exciting. Dang! Gonna go get me a basket full for my lady friends to fondle between rounds.

Another stupendous thought: it seems something else may have, from time to time, caused a bunch of deranged thoughts among postal workers, hence the phrase, “Going postal”.

Don, I thought Kathy asked you not to post anything that would get her banned from the PG blogroll :)

Don, you may have stumbled on a new defense for crazy postal workers — instead of twinkies, they could use gummie worms.
