Fast Forward
We visited my parents this past weekend. Daddy was feeling much better; he’d been tilling up the vegetable garden, and he and my husband even played some golf while we were there. He went back to Atlanta today for a bronchoscopy and a stress test, expecting that he’d hear back from the doctor in a few days and that his surgery would be scheduled for sometime in April. Yeah, and life is what happens while you’re making other plans.
His surgery is now scheduled for Monday. This coming Monday. Mama tells me I don’t need to come over till he gets out of the hospital. Right. Like I’m going to stay in Birmingham while my Daddy is having a lung removed. So I’ll be juggling schedules, and sweet husband will be skipping out of the office to transport children to various activities. Is it possible that by this time next week the cancer will be gone? I’m afraid to consider it. If everything goes well, the surgeon says Daddy will be back on the golf course in a couple of months. That would be truly amazing.
******
You have all been so generous with your good thoughts and prayers for my family, and now I’m asking for more. My brother’s father-in-law is having surgery tomorrow (Thursday) to remove a cancerous section of his colon and to biopsy a spot on his lung that showed up on the routine pre-op chest x-ray. My brother is with my parents right now while his spouse is with his family. (Yeah, I know Alabama doesn’t recognize gay marriage, but I do.) Please send some positive energy their way as well.

You didn’t mention that when we played golf (after three months of chemo and a month of radiation), he shot 40 for nine holes. My father in law is amazing.

It’s so hard when there is more than one worry at a time and we have to figure out where to put ourselves, both literally and energetically. Your whole family is in my prayers, Kathy. I’m with you, no way would I have stayed home if I was only a car ride away.
