How Many Days Since “Mission Accomplished”? *

W has admitted the reality that US troops will remain in Iraq for years, and he’s passing the buck to the next President to decide when to bring them home. No, George, I don’t think so. You broke it; you buy it. This is your legacy. Too bad it’s our soldiers and the Iraqi people who have to live with it.

this is my favorite part: “I am confident — I believe, I’m optimistic we’ll succeed,” the president said. “If not, I’d pull our troops out. If I didn’t believe we had a plan for victory I wouldn’t leave our people in harm’s way.”

the problem is that he has neither facts nor reason to support his beliefs. it is all well and good to pick a final four team because you really believe they are going to win it all. gambling with people’s lives requires more substantial justification.

I may be parsing words a bit, and I know George isn’t the best at navigating the English language, but I’d prefer to hear that we have a plan for victory, not that he “believe[s]” we have a plan. His beliefs don’t reassure me.

Olbermann says how many days it’s been since the mission accomplished statement every night at the end of his show. It’s over a thousand, I’ll try and remember for you when I watch his show tonight.

I think George will desperately try to start a war with Iran to keep the GOP majorities in Congress. And the pundits will roll out the we can’t change horses midstream arguments again. I don’t know if the American people will buy it or not, it’s so hard to tell how much they know or believe at this point.

Jamison, we love Olbermann here! I missed the beginning of his show last night, so I didn’t get the number. If you hear it tonight, let me know — we have to go to a birthday party.

You need a TiVo immediately! ;) I never have time to watch shows when they come on, so TiVo does it for me and I watch them when I have time. I can’t imagine modern life without it.

If I can stay awake till 11 pm, I’ll watch the rebroadcast. I’m still living with the old “program the VCR and hope the power doesn’t go out” method.

    1056 days this evening.
