Lawmakers Call for Probe Into Domestic Spying — Bush Defends Iraq Policy (Again)

Weren’t Republicans the ones who were supposed to get government off our backs? But hey, we’re at war, so I guess it’s okay if the President spies on US citizens. His defense? He’s the President, so he can do whatever he wants, and anyway, the White House briefed Congressional leaders. But if the White House is breaking the law, does it really matter if some members of Congress knew about it? I don’t think so.

And now Bush goes on TV to tell us — yet again — that we’re winning the war in Iraq, that we have to stay the course, and that anyone who disagrees with him must be a “defeatist” with a partisan agenda. How interesting — he’s managed to turn Iraq into a breeding ground for terrorists and the majority of US citizens into pacifists. And in his attempt to bring freedom and democracy to Iraq, he’s destroying both at home.

Do the ends really justify the means, George?
