It’s official. Another white Christian male, John Roberts, for the Supreme Court. And one who thinks Operation Rescue is worthy of support. I’m pretty confident that most people in this country are like me, preferring abortion to be safe, legal, and rare. I don’t want a Supreme Court justice who is determined to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Mr. Roberts has been a judge for two whole years. I’m not sure that gives him enough experience for a lifetime appointment on the nation’s highest court. But perhaps this will distract the press from the Karl Rove story. And at least he’s not Roy Moore.
Hat tip to Pam’s House Blend.
One out of three ain’t bad, right? Abortion is legal. But rare? Hardly. And safe? The families of the women who die would beg to differ on that.
Christina, I’m not saying we live up to my ideal. However, giving me a list of women who died in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s doesn’t convince me that abortion is a particularly dangerous procedure now. And what about the rare part? I think it would be very difficult to come up with valid statistics on that one. Around 30% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage during the first trimester, so even if we had total number of births compared to total number of abortions, the numbers wouldn’t really be accurate.
I would prefer that no one ever had an abortion, unless it was for health reasons, but I also don’t want to go back to coat hangers and herbal drinks. If an abortion is the best of a bunch of poor options, I’d like for a woman to be able to go to a doctor who at least knows how to perform one properly.
