This is cracking me up. All I can think of is all the cigarette-smoking post-menopausal ladies I know who sing tenor in their church choirs (where, I might add, good tenors are always in short supply). And a young black guy who studied with the same voice teacher I did, years ago in Virginia. He was a tenor until tne day Phyllis discovered he had a fabulous counter-tenor range. She was over the moon with delight, gave him all this new repertoire ("Do you know what a gift this is? Your career is MADE!") but he hated it. I can still see him rather sullenly singing (in a beautiful pure tone) some early music aria or other at the studio recital.

Seriously, I don't think I'd want my kid educated by any music "educator" who agreed to this asinine plan. Oh well. Now Mikhael has had national exposure, which surely will compensate for not having a chance to win All-State Choir.
